What kind of costs would I be looking at for a yearly small business insurance liability policy?
Can anyone give me a round about idea of the yearly cost for a bond/general liability policy for a small cleaning business with only 1 employee in NY? Does $1-2 thousand sound about right?
General liability with one person cleaning, gross receipts under $75,000 is going to run around $1500 a year.
A "bond" is going to run around $250, but doesn’t mean what you think it means, and basically you don’t need it anyway. You’ll have to guarantee the bond amount if it’s a start up business, which means, post $5,000 or however much you want the bond to be for.
Bonds for janitorial services, people ask about them here about twice a week. No one really needs them, unless you’re doing government work.

it is a lot cheaper than that depends on the industry that your business is in but general liability is close to 2 or 3 hundred a year. i work for a company that deals with small business owners with general liability everyday.

In NY, your price guess is about right. But don’t forget if you have even one employee you are required by law to also carry workers comp and disability.
Aside from all that, are you using your own equipment? How do you transport it if you do? You may need commercial inland marine to cover your equipment and a commercial auto policy, as well…
