Business New Hampshire Magazine in partnership with the NH Businesses for Social Responsibility announces Keene-based Clark-Mortenson Agency, Inc. as this year’s winner.
(Keene, New Hampshire, December 3, 2008)-BusinessNH Magazine has announced in their December, 2008 cover story that Clark-Mortenson is the number one business to work for in New Hampshire for companies with less than 100 employees. That explains the waiting list for prospective employees.
Headquartered in Keene, with over 55 employees and branches throughout southern New Hampshire and Vermont, Clark-Mortenson boasts a very low annual employee turnover rate “Our turnover rate is very low for the insurance industry, and for any industry for that matter, our employees don’t want to leave.” says President Tom Minkler, who credits smart hiring and an environment that is aimed at encouraging and recognizing personal success and professional achievement.
CEO Heather Minkler explains that the agency believes in mutual respect and gratitude, represented by hand-written thank you notes from colleagues recognizing each other’s efforts, ceremonies to honor employee milestones and accreditations, and the occasional ice cream social or pizza party. “Tom still hand-writes a thank you on employee paychecks,” says Heather Minkler. Staff recognition culminates in the yearly Summit Awards, in which six employees nominated by coworkers are recognized for their extraordinary efforts.
Clark-Mortenson also offers a partnership bonus program based on profitability, a paid volunteer day; flex time during spring and summer months, and special corporate rates on loans to purchase personal computers. According to Tom Minkler, “perks like these help us foster a strong organization based on mutual respect and appreciation, one that’s ready for future growth.”
Each year, BusinessNH invites the state’s small and large businesses to fill out an extensive application outlining employee benefits, company culture, a creative and innovative work environment, employee development strategies, mission statement and statements of support from employees. A BusinessNH judging panel determines 20 semi-finalists in both categories, which are then evaluated by outside judges and given site tours organized by Bruce Mast & Associates.
Clark-Mortenson and other winners will be recognized and take audience questions at the annual Breakfast with the Best at 7:30 a.m. on February 19 at the Radisson Hotel’s Center of New Hampshire in Manchester.
Clark-Mortenson Insurance and Financial Services is one of the largest independently owned providers of insurance, financial services and risk-management counsel in Northern New England. Clark-Mortenson is headquartered in Keene, New Hampshire with branches throughout the Granite State and Vermont.
